How to Ask Customers for a Google Review After a Job

A good review request is timely, specific and easy to act on. It should remind the customer what was completed without telling them what rating or wording to use.

Start with the right customer moment

Ask after the customer can judge the completed work. For an in-person service, that may be the final walkthrough or handover. For a remote completion, it may be after the customer receives photos or confirms that the result meets expectations.

The request should feel like the final step of the service, not an unrelated marketing message sent weeks later.

  • The work is complete.
  • The customer has seen or confirmed the result.
  • Any immediate correction has been handled.
  • The direct Google review path is ready and tested.

Make the request specific but neutral

Mention the service or project so the customer recognizes the request. Ask for an honest review about the experience. Do not ask for five stars, supply the words the customer should write or imply that only positive feedback is welcome.

Google says businesses may encourage genuine reviews, but must not offer incentives or selectively solicit only positive reviews.

Simple after-job request

Hi [Name], thank you for choosing [Business] for your [service]. If you have a moment, we would appreciate an honest Google review about your experience: [link]

Request with finished-work page

Hi [Name], your [service/project] is complete. Here is the finished-work page: [link]. You can also use it to share an honest Google review if you would like.

Choose the right channel

Use a channel the customer already used with the business. A familiar WhatsApp thread, text conversation or email is usually clearer than introducing another app.

  • WhatsApp for active customer conversations.
  • Text for a short mobile request.
  • Email when you need more context or an automatic follow-up.
  • A QR card for in-person scanning at the point of completion.

Follow up once, then stop

A customer may intend to leave a review and simply forget. One short reminder can be reasonable. Repeated messages create pressure and can damage the experience that earned the request.

Do not call a page view or review-link click a completed review. Compare your request activity with the public Google review count instead.

One polite follow-up

Hi [Name], just a quick follow-up on your recent [service]. If you would still like to share your experience, the review link is here: [link]. Thank you again.

A repeatable five-step workflow

  1. Finish the work and confirm the result.
  2. Create the customer-specific request page or direct link.
  3. Share it through the customer’s normal channel.
  4. Send no more than one appropriate reminder.
  5. Track requests and public Google review growth separately.
